Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported Jeremiah Lee Wright (W/M, D.O.B. 06/22/81) was transported Friday morning from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux to the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System, Forensic Division in Jackson, LA. On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, Judge John Leblanc had ordered Wright be remanded to the mental health facility after psychiatric reports showed he was not competent to stand trial. Wright is charged with the First Degree Murder of his seven-year-old son, Jori Lirette, on August 14, 2011.
Judge Leblanc suspended court proceedings on October 18 after finding by a preponderance of the evidence that Wright would have been unable to understand the nature of the proceedings and would have been incapable of assisting counsel in his defense. Judge Leblanc committed Wright to the facility and ordered monthly reports on the progress of his restorative treatment.
Judge Leblanc has ordered a Status Conference scheduled for January 31, 2012, in Division A of the 17th Judicial District Court.
