Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of Jeffery Poindexter (B/M, D.O.B. 10/27/77) of 360 Triple Oaks Drive in Raceland, one of two alleged shooters in a pair of incidents that occurred October 13, 2011, in Raceland. The other alleged shooter, Gerard Major, had been arrested October 20 after a standoff with deputies.
On Sunday, October 30, the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office learned that Poindexter was located at his residence on Triple Oaks Street in Raceland. Detectives and deputies responded to the location, located Poindexter, and he was arrested without incident.
Sheriff Webre thanked the citizens of Lafourche for helping to find both suspects. He said, We are happy to report that both shooting suspects in this incident are now in jail and off the streets. In both arrests, we were able to locate the suspects with the help of citizens reporting their whereabouts to us. Its this kind of proactive involvement from residents that will help us keep our neighborhoods safe.
Deputies had been searching for Poindexter after he fled from the scene of both shootings Thursday, October 13. The first occurred shortly before 3:00 A.M. when Major allegedly shot at a vehicle parked at a residence on Triple Oaks Drive in Raceland. Four men were in the car at the time of the shooting, including Poindexter, who had fled from the scene before deputies arrived. Later that same morning, around 8:15 A.M., it is alleged that Poindexter returned with his brother, Johnny Poindexter, to the neighborhood and shot at Major. Deputies were able to catch up to and apprehend Johnny Poindexter, but once again, Jeffery Poindexter had fled the scene.
Following his arrest Sunday, Jeffery Poindexter was booked on warrants for Attempted Second Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he is being held in lieu of $325,000.00 bond as per his arrest warrants.
