Inmate Racks Up Additional Charges after Week of Violence at LPDC

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported a female inmate has been booked on several additional charges after repeated run-ins with deputies and correctional officers this week. Jodie Savoie (W/F, D.O.B. 02/08/79) an inmate of the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux, was booked on multiple charges stemming from several incidents this week. Savoie was initially arrested and booked into the facility on December 4, 2011, after placing a bogus food order with a Raceland restaurant and threatening to “kill everyone” at the restaurant if the food was not prepared.

On Monday, December 19, a deputy heard Savoie banging on the door of her cell and told her to stop, but Savoie refused to comply. The deputy called for a supervisor who responded and asked Savoie to back up, but Savoie refused and lunged forward striking the deputy with a closed fist. The supervisor then restrained Savoie, and she was booked on the additional charge of Felony Battery of a Police Officer.

The following day, on Tuesday, December 20, deputies responded to Savoie’s cell due to a light cover hindering the view of Savoie’s cell. Deputies instructed Savoie to remove the light cover, but she refused. Deputies then entered the cell and removed the light cover, but as they were leaving the cell, Savoie struck one of the deputies with a closed first twice. A struggle ensued, during which she also struck a deputy in the head. Deputies eventually restrained Savoie and offered her medical treatment. Savoie refused medical attention, however, and kicked the attending nurse in the leg. Savoie was booked on the additional charges of Tampering with Electronic Monitoring Equipment, Battery of a Correctional Facility Employee and two counts of Felony Battery of a Police Officer.

Then on Wednesday, deputies again responded to Savoie’s cell due to a light being out. A deputy entered the cell and observed a light covered with debris. The deputy removed the debris, and Savoie came from across the cell and struck the deputy in the back of the head twice with a closed fist. A struggle ensued with deputies during which Savoie struck deputies several times until finally being restrained again in her cell. Savoie was charged with five additional counts of Battery against a Correctional Officer and Resisting with Force or Violence for the incident. A short time later, Savoie had removed her handcuffs and was threatening to use them as a weapon. Savoie ignored multiple orders from deputies to allow them to restrain her properly through the cell window. After several warnings, Savoie remained non-compliant, and deputies entered the cell. Once the door was opened, Savoie lunged at deputies landing several blows using the handcuffs intertwined into her fingers with a closed fist. Deputies restrained her after a brief struggle. She was then booked on additional charges including two counts of Felony Battery of a Police Officer, two counts of Simple Assault, and Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

Savoie is now being held in lieu of $154,000.00 bond. Her criminal history shows three (3) prison stays and 39 arrests, with a history of battery against police officers and correctional officers.
