Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a suspect wanted for an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday morning on Ayo Street in Raceland. Detectives say the suspect is a black male and was last seen wearing either navy blue or black coveralls with white tennis shoes. The suspect had a white rag covering his face, making it impossible to get a facial description.
On Wednesday morning, a man (over the age of 60) was walking along Ayo Street as he does each morning for exercise. At around 4:00 A.M., he was approached by the suspect who demanded his wallet. The man told the suspect he had no money, and the suspect proceeded to beat the man with what witnesses described as a wooden board. Once the suspect had beaten the man down to the street, he took the mans wallet and fled the scene. Deputies and K-9 units searched the surround areas but were unable to locate the suspect at that time. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his wounds, which included head trauma. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433 or by texting GIVEATIP plus your message to 274637.
