Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre, on behalf of Bayou Region Crime Stoppers, is announcing the launch of a free mobile phone application designed to allow users to report crimes anonymously to Crime Stoppers. The TipSubmit Mobile app is now available for Android and Apple iPhone users. The app is the first mobile application that allows the public anonymously submit tips to law enforcement agencies to help solve and prevent crime.
Users of the free app may now submit secure and anonymous tips to Bayou Region Crime Stoppers as well as thousands of other Crime Stoppers organizations, law enforcement agencies and school safety officers throughout the country. Prior to the release of this application, tips were sent in anonymously by telephone, submitting information over the website (http://www.crimestoppersbr.org), or via SMS text message. The application offers more powerful options than text messaging tips because it has the ability to use a devices built-in GPS to auto-locate the nearest agency or to select an agency manually. Members of the public can attach images and video to tips directly from the device. The app also makes it possible to establish an anonymous, ongoing, two-way dialogue and real-time chat with the receiving agency.
By packaging the tip-reporting process into an app, we believe more citizens of all ages will begin participating in the program, which will obviously lead to more arrests as we follow up on tips, said Sheriff Webre. The Sheriffs Office, along with Crime Stoppers, will continue to evolve with along with technology.
The application is free to download, but the users standard wireless data rates will apply. Any tip submitted through the application will follow the same path as any other submitted tip, and the tipster will be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.00 in cash if the information helps lead to an arrest. For more information, or to download the application, visit the Android Market or iTunes App Store on your mobile device.
