Lafourche Parish Craig Webre reported the arrest of two Larose residents for breaking into several vehicles Saturday night on W. 40th Street in Larose. Deputies arrested Jeffrey Vasold, Jr. (W/M, D.O.B. 08/23/85) and Melissa Simmons (W/F, D.O.B. 09/24/83), both of 149 E. 25th Place, after deputies caught them at a residence where Simmons was in the act of burglarizing a vehicle.
Shortly after 12:00 A.M. on Sunday, February 25, deputies responded to a call from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious white truck pulling into several driveways along W. 40th Place in Larose. Upon arrival to the street, deputies located the truck with a male subject sitting in the drivers seat, the engine running, and the headlights turned off. Deputies asked the male subject to step out and identified him as Jeffrey Vasold. Deputies also noticed a female subject searching through another vehicle at that location and identified her as Melissa Simmons. Simmons appeared to be in an intoxicated state and also had a coin tray in her possession which contained about $15.00 in change. Both were detained for questioning, and Simmons became very irate and began yelling and using profane language.
Deputies located several other stolen items inside the suspects vehicle and were able to return them to the rightful owners. Through investigation, deputies learned Simmons and Vasold had burglarized four vehicles that night. They were charged with four (4) counts of Simple Burglary each. Vasold is being held in lieu of $25,000.00 bond. Simmons, who was also charged with Disturbing the Peace by Intoxication, is being held in lieu of $25,100.00.
Due to the nature of these crimes, Sheriff Craig Webre is asking that any resident in the area of W. 40th Street that finds they have been a victim of a vehicle burglary to contact the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office at (985) 798-2255 to report it immediately.
