Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Raceland man and woman for a robbery at a Raceland casino on Friday, June 22. Sidney Roger (W/M, D.O.B. 07/02/80) and Rochell Hodges (W/F, D.O.B. 12/25/81), both of 444 Church Street, were arrested late Friday night.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Friday night, deputies responded to a disturbance at a casino located on South Service Road in Raceland. Through investigation, deputies learned a woman had stolen money out of the hand of a man who was playing video poker at the casino. Deputies learned a man and woman had walked into the casino together, and the woman began walking around the casino and approached several people. The woman approached the male victim, who had three $10 bills in his hand at the time. The woman grabbed the money, ripping the bills in half as she did so. She ran out the casino along with the man whom had accompanied her inside, and they drove away in a black convertible.
After obtaining a description of the suspects and the vehicle, patrol deputies began searching for the vehicle in the area. A deputy later spotted the vehicle traveling west on Twin Oaks Drive in Raceland and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the vehicle occupants and identified the driver as Sidney Roger and the passenger as Rochell Hodges. Roger and Hodges matched the description of the suspects and were detained for questioning. Deputies also learned Rogers drivers license was suspended for a prior DWI.
While questioning the suspects at the scene, Dwayne Chiasson (W/M, D.O.B. 10/19/69) of 436 Church Street and Christopher Harrod (W/M, D.O.B. 09/30/80) of 311 Second Street in Lockport were traveling in a truck and passed by several times attempting to contact the suspects in custody. Deputies warned both subjects numerous times to leave the vicinity due to interfering with the ongoing investigation. Chiasson and Harrod refused to leave the area and eventually exited the truck and approached the officers, continuing to attempt to make contact with the suspects. At that time, deputies issued both Chiasson and Harrod a summons for Interfering with a Law Enforcement Investigation.
Both Hodges and Roger were transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and were each booked with Simple Robbery. Roger was also booked with Operating a Vehicle while under Suspension. Judge John Leblanc set Hodges bond at $25,000 and set Rogers bond at $26,000.
