Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Cut Off man on several drug charges after being stopped for impaired driving. Deputies arrested Dwight Gautreaux Jr. (W/M, D.O.B. 12/14/85) of 152 E. 56th Street on Tuesday following a traffic stop on Highway 3162 in Galliano.
On Tuesday morning, a concerned citizen reported a vehicle driving erratically in the Cut Off area. A patrol deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver and immediately noticed him to have significantly dilated pupils and bloodshot eyes, and he was swaying as he stood. The deputy identified the driver as Dwight Gautreaux and noticed a prescription bottle in plain view on the center console of the vehicle. Inside the bottle were 13 hydrocodone pills of three different varieties. Gautreaux admitted to taking multiple pills that morning and that he did not have a prescription for them. The deputy then conducted a field sobriety test on which Gautreaux performed poorly.
At that time another patrol deputy arrived to assist. After placing Gautreaux under arrest, deputies conducted a pat down search and discovered suspected marijuana and rolling papers in his pockets. Gautreaux then admitted to having additional narcotics inside the vehicle. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located12 morphine pills and 1.5 Suboxone pills. Gautreaux was later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked with possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone, possession with intent to distribute morphine, possession of marijuana, possession of Suboxone, possession of drug paraphernalia and DWI. He is being held in lieu of $23,050 bond as set by Judge F. Hugh Larose.
