One Teen Arrested, Two Sought for Auto Theft and Burglary

AutoTheftBurglary102512Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Lockport teenager for stealing a car in Bayou Blue earlier this month. Samuel Grabert (W/M, D.O.B. 04/03/95) of 917 Barrilleaux Street was arrested on warrants Wednesday. Detectives say two other teens were involved in the incident, and have issued arrest warrants for Cody Labranche (W/M, D.O.B. 09/22/94) and Kaine Brantley (W/M, D.O.B. 03/19/95).

On October 11, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Lunenburg Street in Bayou Blue in reference to a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies learned a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo had last been seen parked inside the resident’s garage at around 6:30 p.m. the previous day. A spare key to the stolen car had been left inside a truck parked alongside the car and was now also missing.

Through investigation, detectives learned Grabert, Labranche and Brantley arrived at the Lunenburg Street residence and first made entry into the truck where they found the key to the car parked alongside. The suspects then put the vehicle in neutral and pushed the vehicle out of the driveway and onto the street. Once they had pushed the vehicle away from the house, they started up the vehicle and drove to Metairie, La., where the car was left in Labranche’s possession. Then on October 20, Westwego Police reported they had found and recovered the stolen vehicle and had taken Labranche into custody, charging him with resisting arrest and possession of stolen things. It was later learned that Brantley had fled the scene and remains at large. Labranche was released from custody in Westwego after posting bond on October 22.

Then on October 24, following further investigation, detectives in Lafourche obtained arrest warrants for all three teens for theft of a motor vehicle and simple burglary. Detectives learned of Grabert’s whereabouts that same day and made contact with him. He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he remains in lieu of $60,000 bond.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating the other two suspects.
