On October 11, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Lunenburg Street in Bayou Blue where a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo had allegedly been stolen. Through investigation, detectives learned three male teens burglarized a truck parked in the same garage, obtained a spare key to the automobile, and drove away from the scene. The vehicle was later recovered by Westwego Police on October 20. Meanwhile, Lafourche detectives obtained warrants for the arrest of the three teens on October 24. Samuel Grabert (W/M, D.O.B. 04/03/95) of 917 Barrilleaux Street was arrested that day. Kaine Brantley (W/M, D.O.B. 03/19/95) of 4205 Academy Drive in Metairie turned himself in to deputies on Sunday, October 28 after learning about the warrants for his arrest. Both Grabert and Brantley remain at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux in lieu of $60,000 bond each, facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle and simple burglary of a motor vehicle. The third suspect, Cody Labranche (W/M, D.O.B. 09/22/94) is wanted for the same charges and remains at large. He was arrested by Westwego Police on October 20 as they recovered the stolen car, but was released after posting bond, prior to the warrants being issued for his arrest in Lafourche.
At 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, deputies responded to the Sugarland Shopping Center in Raceland in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies located the vehicle with the headlights on and the engine running. When deputies attempted to make contact with the driver, he appeared to be sleeping and there were two open containers of alcohol in plain view in cup holders. Deputies tapped on the window and woke the driver, later identified as Clarence Clements (B/M, D.O.B. 05/21/66) of 748 St. Phillip Street in Raceland. As he stepped out of the vehicle, deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person, and his speech was slurred. Deputies then attempted to conduct a Standardized Field Sobriety Test on Clements, but after beginning the test, Clements refused to finish. Clements later submitted to a breathalyzer test, and the results showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.186g%. Clements was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with DWI (4th offense) and for having an open container inside a motor vehicle. He is being held in lieu of $50,050 bond as set by Judge F. Hugh Larose. An additional hold has also been placed by the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole.
