Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Raceland couple on multiple charges following a traffic stop on Wednesday, December 19. Antonio Medina III (I/M, D.O.B. 10/14/84) and Shawna Medina (W/F, D.O.B. 03/12/77), both of 145 S. Service Road, face several drug charges after agents found additional narcotics and a firearm at their residence.
At around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force observed a car speeding and following another vehicle too closely, and they initiated a traffic stop on LA Highway 1 in Raceland. Agents made contact with the driver, later identified as Antonio Medina III, as well as the passenger, later identified as Shawna Medina. Agents also noticed a juvenile in the rear seat of the car. Agents noticed the driver appeared to be nervous, but he denied having anything illegal in the vehicle and voluntarily agreed to a search. Shawna Medina, meanwhile, handed deputies a plastic bag containing 13.9 gross grams of suspected marijuana.
The agents had recently conducted an investigation involving the Medinas and were able to obtain a search warrant for their Raceland residence. Upon searching the residence, agents located approximately 84.3 gross grams of additional suspected marijuana, various drug paraphernalia, a shotgun, and a bottle of Ciprofloxacin pills.
The Medinas were arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Both were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a legend drug without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Antonio Medina III was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and he is being held in lieu of $77,250 bond as set by Judge Ashly Bruce Simpson. Shawna Medina was additionally charged with illegal use of a controlled drug in the presence of persons under 17, and she is being held in lieu of $19,250 bond as also set by Judge Simpson.
