Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported a suspect is in custody following an incident on U.S. Highway 90 Thursday morning. Deputies are currently attempting to properly identify the suspect who has been uncooperative thus far.
Through investigation, detectives learned the suspect was involved in an auto crash on U.S. 90 near the LA Highway 182 exit just before 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 27. Following the crash, the suspect then pointed a handgun at the driver of a vehicle passing nearby and demanded the drivers keys. The driver handed him a set of keys, but the suspect then fled the scene, eventually running into a wooded area adjacent to U.S. 90 Westbound, just west of the LA 182 exit. With the assistance of a K-9 unit, deputies located the suspect in the wooded area and he was taken into custody.
The suspect will be charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Additional charges could also be pending as the investigation is continuing. Louisiana State Police indicated he is also charged with hit and run, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and no drivers license in reference to the auto crash.
U.S. 90 Westbound traffic was stopped for over an hour due to the incident. Traffic flow resumed around 10:30 a.m.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office will issue an update after the suspect is properly identified and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux.
