Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Houma man after deputies caught him in the act as he was committing a burglary. James Gunn (W/M, D.O.B. 05/27/76) of 135 St. Louis Street was arrested after coming face to face with deputies as he attempted to exit the victims residence.
At around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, deputies responded to a residence in the 300 block of Bayou Blue Bypass Road in Gray after receiving a call from a neighbor in reference to a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival, deputies spotted an open window at the residence with the window screen lying on the ground. Moments later, the suspect emerged from the window and immediately spotted deputies standing right in front of him. He initially refused deputies commands and began stepping away in what was believed to be an attempt to escape. Deputies moved in and grabbed the subject who continued to resist, but was eventually detained in handcuffs.
Deputies learned Gunn had damaged the screen when he gained entry through the window, and he had not taken any items from the residence. They also learned he was in violation of a protective order due to being in that location.
Gunn was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with criminal trespassing, simple criminal damage to property, resisting an officer and violation of a protective order. He is currently being held in lieu of $2,000 bond as set by Judge F. Hugh Buddy Larose.
