LPSO Kicks Off ‘Click It or Ticket’ Campaign

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the 2013 “Click It or Ticket” Seatbelt Enforcement Mobilization begins today in Lafourche Parish. This statewide, two-week campaign is aimed at reminding all motorists to faster their seat belts and drive safely at all times. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office is one of 132 law enforcement agencies participating statewide in the 2013 “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

“Our message is simple: Buckle up, or you WILL be ticketed,” said Sheriff Webre. “With all the dangers of driving a vehicle in today’s world, it is amazing to me that 1 in 5 people are still not using a seat belt. With our efforts through this campaign, we hope to raise awareness and remind motorists that the very first thing you should do when you enter a vehicle is buckle up.”

As part of this effort, utilizing Overtime Enforcement Grants funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will have saturated patrols on the lookout for unrestrained vehicle occupants. Deputies will also be participating in a multi-agency Seat Belt and DWI Checkpoint, as well as a Child Passenger Safety Seat Checkpoint. Further details regarding these checkpoints will soon be announced.

Seat belts are the most effective safety feature ever invented and have helped save thousands of lives. Last year, seat belt use in Louisiana was at 79.4% compared to 86% nationwide.
