Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced deputies arrested a Raceland man after a physical altercation he had with a Raceland woman nearly resulted in her death. Gerovonta Bourda (B/M, D.O.B. 05/29/86) of 688 Greenville Street is charged with attempted second degree murder in the incident which occurred on Monday, July 15.
On Thursday afternoon, representatives of Ochsner St. Anne Hospital contacted the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office regarding a patient who was being treated for life-threatening injuries sustained in an altercation which had occurred on Monday, July 13. Detectives responded and learned the victim, a 45-year-old female from Raceland, had been involved in a verbal altercation with a man which eventually turned physical. During the altercation, the female victim was allegedly slammed to the ground several times and eventually lost consciousness. The incident was not reported to law enforcement that time, and the woman did not seek medical treatment until Thursday, July 18. She was eventually transported to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. She is currently in stable condition.
Through investigation, detectives learned the victim had been attacked by Gerovonta Bourda, also known as Dut, and obtained a warrant for his arrest for the charge of attempted second degree murder. Then on Friday, July 19, patrol deputies located Bourda as he was driving up to his Raceland residence. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked on the aforementioned warrant and is currently being held in lieu of $200,000 bond as set by Judge Ashly Bruce Simpson via the warrant.
