Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, February 26. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of Lafourche Parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 328 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint which occurred on LA Highway 1 just south of the Town of Lockport on Wednesday, February 19. During that checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 4 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 2 seat belt violations
- 1 window tint violation
- 1 motorcycle helmet violation (helmet not DOTD-approved)
