Two Convicted Felons Arrested and Another is Sought After Being Found with a Stolen Firearm

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two convicted felons from Thibodaux were arrested after they were found to be in possession of a stolen firearm during a traffic stop wherein the driver, who is also a convicted felon, fled the scene. Sabian Smith (B/M, D.O.B. 08/06/94) of 128-C Solar Trailer Park and Michael Clark Jr. (B/M, D.O.B. 07/26/90) of 1210 Winder Road (Lot A) face weapons charges following the incident. Deputies are searching for the driver, Skylleur Hayes (B/M, D.O.B. 11/16/91) of 948 St. Charles Street in Thibodaux, who fled on foot during the traffic stop.

While on patrol in the Thibodaux area at around 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, deputies noticed a vehicle turn on to LA Highway 3107 from Jude Street after failing to stop at the intersection or use a turn signal, and the vehicle also traveled a short distance on the wrong side of the road. Deputies initiated a traffic stop near Solar Trailer Park, made contact with the driver, and identified him as Skylleur Hayes. As deputies approached the front passenger door with Hayes to retrieve his vehicle registration, the front-seat passenger, later identified as Sabian Smith, exited the vehicle and ignored the deputy’s commands to return to the vehicle. Deputies noted there was also a passenger in the rear seat, later identified as Michael Clark Jr., and deputies also located a handgun in plain sight in the center console. At that time, deputies advised all three subjects to place their hands on the hood of the vehicle. While deputies were detaining Clark and Sabian, Hayes fled the scene on foot. Hayes was initially able to evade pursuing deputies. Additional deputies and officers of the Thibodaux Police Department also arrived to help search for Hayes, but they were unable to locate him at that time. Meanwhile, deputies had determined the handgun was reported as stolen during a vehicle burglary in 2013. They also determined the temporary tag to be invalid, and there was no insurance on the vehicle.

Sabian and Clark were charged with one count each of Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Each is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond as set by Judge John E. LeBlanc, and both men are also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Warrants have been issued for Hayes’ arrest for the charges of Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Resisting an Officer, improper lane usage, failure to stop, no insurance, and invalid license plate. Collectively, the total bond amount is set at $26,400. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Skylleur Hayes should contact Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433 or by texting “GIVEATIP” plus your message to 274637.
