Woman Forges Checks, Steals Over $12,000 from Elderly Man

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Thibodaux woman who stole more than $12,000 from an elderly man by forging his signature on checks she took from him. Susan Arcement (W/F, D.O.B. 04/29/69) now faces over 40 felony counts of charges stemming from the crime.

Earlier this month, patrol deputies began investigating a complaint wherein a man over the age of 70 had several checks totaling over $12,000 illegally written from his bank account with a forged signature during the month of March. Through investigation, deputies learned 21 checks had been stolen and used, and many of the checks were written to Susan Arcement. Deputies also learned the victim had confronted Arcement about the checks and she had admitted to taking the checks and forging his signature. Deputies obtained warrants for Arcement’s arrest. Then on Thursday, April 24, patrol deputies initiated a traffic stop in Thibodaux for a vehicle with an inoperable brake light. Deputies identified the driver as Susan Arcement and placed her under arrest. She was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where she was booked on active warrants for 21 counts of Exploitation of the Infirmed and 21 counts of Forgery. She is currently being held in lieu of $30,000 bond as set by Judge Walter I. Lanier III via the warrants.

Arcement’s criminal history includes 10 prior arrests for various charges including multiple drug and battery charges.

Deputies indicate the investigation into this matter is continuing.
