Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, August 20. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 881 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint conducted on LA Highway 1 at its intersection with U.S. Highway 90 on Wednesday, August 13. During the checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 1 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 8 seat belt violations
- 3 improper child restraints
- 5 window tint violations
- 1 expired vehicle registration
- 1 canceled license plate
