Convicted Felon Found in Possession of Marijuana and a Handgun

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a convicted felon from Thibodaux found in possession of marijuana and a firearm. Corey Chiasson (31, W/M) was arrested following a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
 
Shortly before 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, deputies traveling along Percy Brown Road Thibodaux noticed a vehicle cross the center line and enter a lane of oncoming traffic. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Corey Chiasson. Deputies immediately noticed a bag containing suspected marijuana in the driver’s side door as well as a handgun on the floor near the driver’s feet. They also discovered Chiasson to have a bag of suspected marijuana on his person. Deputies also identified Chiasson as a convicted felon and sex offender who was currently on parole.  
 
Chiasson was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked with Felony Possession of Marijuana (3rd and Subsequent Offenses), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and improper lane usage. He is being held in lieu of $53,100 bond as set by Judge Ashly Bruce Simpson. He is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.
