Arrests of Note: October 23, 2014

TRAY HOWARD:
At around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, deputies traveling along LA Highway 308 in Raceland attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the driver of a pickup truck, but the driver refused to stop, continuing along LA 308 and increasing speed. Eventually, the truck turned onto LA Highway 182 and came to a stop around the 200 block of Louisiana Street in Raceland. Deputies approached the driver after he exited the vehicle, and they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the driver’s person. The driver voluntarily consented to a pat down search, but while the deputies were doing so, the driver pulled away and fled on foot. Deputies pursued and eventually caught up to the subject and took him into custody. They identified him as Tray Howard (21, B/M) of Raceland and learned he had an outstanding warrant for Distribution of Crack Cocaine with a $75,000 bond. Howard admitted he had marijuana in his possession when he fled from deputies and that he tossed it away while running. Howard was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked on the outstanding warrant in addition to charges of Obstruction of Justice, Resisting an Officer, improper use of vehicle lighting and improper license plate lighting. He is currently being held in lieu of $76,950 bond as set by Judge Jerome J. Barbera, III and per the warrant.

REBA YATES:
On Thursday, October 23, detectives opened an investigation after a Lockport woman reported cash having been stolen from her residence. Detectives learned the complainant had suffered an injury several years ago and required contracted caretakers at her residence. One of those caretakers, Reba Yates (27, W/F) of Gheens, was hired in September. Detectives discovered evidence that Yates recently stole money from the woman’s purse while assisting her and obtained a warrant for Yates' arrest. Deputies made contact with Yates at her home in Gheens, and she was arrested on the warrant for Exploitation of the Infirmed, a felony. Yates was transported to the Detention Center and booked accordingly. She was released Thursday night after posting $500 bond as set by Judge Barbera.
