Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Seat Belt Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, October 29. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
On Wednesday, October 22, deputies conducted a seat belt checkpoint along the northbound lane of LA Highway 308 near the South Lafourche Library. A total of 375 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported the following violations: 8 passengers with no seat belts, 5 child restraint violations, 2 driver's without a license, and 1 driver with no insurance.
