Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Seat Belt Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, January 28. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was held on Wednesday, January 21 along the southbound lane of LA Highway 1 in Thibodaux. Of the 512 vehicles which passed through the checkpoint, deputies reported 6 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 6 seat belt violations, and 6 child restraint violations, 1 expired driver's license, 1 violation for driving under suspension, and 2 drivers without insurance. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C assisted in the checkpoint.
