Cameras Catch Labadieville Man Damaging Parish Boat Launch

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Labadieville man has been charged with damaging a parish boat launch due to reckless vehicle operation. Joseph McKevitt (24, W/M) was caught by a surveillance camera at the boat launch.

After discovering damage to the parking lot at Sanchez Boat Launch on May 5, detectives reviewed surveillance footage and discovered a truck being operated recklessly at the boat launch causing the damage. Then on Friday, May 15, detectives discovered the truck in the Thibodaux area and conducted a traffic stop. They identified the driver as Joseph McKevitt, and he admitted to damaging the parking lot. He was then charged with Simple Criminal Damage to Property and Reckless Operation of a Vehicle.

Sheriff Webre said detectives will continue to use surveillance cameras to monitor activity at the boat launch.

“As we have stated in the past, we will vigorously pursue anyone damaging parish property to ensure they are held liable,” said Sheriff Webre. “Parking lots are costly for the parish to maintain, and this type of behavior has also led to expensive solar lights being broken. Not only are taxpayers footing the bill for these repairs, but private vehicles could also be damaged.”
