Thibodaux Teen Who Stole ATV Now Faces Burglary Charge in Separate Incident

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a teenage male arrested earlier this month after stealing an ATV in Houma has now been charged with burglary in a separate incident. Detectives charged Jacob Ruth (17, W/M) with a residential burglary which occurred three days prior to the ATV incident.

On May 7, 2015, deputies responded to the 2300 block of Highway 665 in Pointe-Aux-Chenes in reference to a residential burglary. Through investigation, deputies learned an unknown subject had broken a window to gain access to the home and stole approximately $800 from the residence. Through investigation, detectives developed Ruth as a suspect in the case and eventually obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Ruth was still in jail from his previous arrest on Sunday, May 10, after he had stolen an ATV from a dealership in Houma. Deputies found him driving the stolen ATV in the Thibodaux area, and he violated several traffic laws before he was stopped and taken into custody.

At the time, Ruth was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on charges of Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Careless Operation, five counts of failure to stop at a stop sign, no safety helmet, and operating an off-road vehicle on a highway. He is now also charged with Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, and his bond now stands at $26,350. He is, however, also being held for authorities in Terrebonne Parish due a Simple Burglary warrant for the ATV theft which carries a $50,000 bond, as well as a probation violation.
