Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, June 3. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was conducted on Thursday, May 28, along the northbound lane of LA Highway 1 in Raceland. A total of 571 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported only three expired motor vehicle inspection stickers and one seat belt violation.
