Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, June 24. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was conducted on Wednesday, June 17, along the northbound lane of LA Highway 3087 in Bayou Blue. A total of 424 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported 13 seat belt violations, 7 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, and 1 vehicle with no motor vehicle inspection sticker.
Sheriff Webre reminds citizens that the driver and ALL passengers in a motor vehicle must be properly restrained while traveling on public roadways in Louisiana.
