Seat Belt Checkpoints Scheduled for Wednesday and Friday

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct two seat belt checkpoints in Lafourche Parish this week. The first will be held during the daylight hours of Wednesday, July 1, and the second will be held during the evening hours of Friday, July 3. During the checkpoints, deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.

Additionally, Sheriff Webre says there will be saturated patrols throughout the Independence Day weekend as deputies ensure any impaired drivers are removed from our roadways.

The last seat belt weekly checkpoint was conducted on Wednesday,June 24, along Laurel Valley Road in Thibodaux. A total of 168 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported 3 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 2 expired vehicle registrations, 1 driving under suspension, and 1 driving with no insurance.

Sheriff Webre reminds citizens that the driver and ALL passengers in a motor vehicle must be properly restrained while traveling on public roadways in Louisiana. He further reminds those planning to consume alcohol during the holiday weekend to designate a driver.
