Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, July 29. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office’s year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was conducted on Wednesday, July 22 along the northbound lane of LA Highway 1 south of Golden Meadow. Due to inclimate weather conditions, the checkpoint ended after approximately one hour. During that time, a total of 253 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported the following violations: 6 no seat belt, 7 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 1 no driver’s license, 1 no insurance, 1 no registration.
