Sheriff Craig Webre announced Torry “Bird” Hunter (age 27) is in custody in Lafourche Parish following his arrest in Rapides Parish last week. Hunter is charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder in an October 11 shooting incident. Pachen Canty was arrested on October 13 for helping Hunter flee the scene of the crime.
As previously reported, investigators responded to a reported shooting on St. Louis Street in Raceland just after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 11. Through investigation, detectives learned two men were engaged in a verbal altercation when one of the men, later identified as Hunter, brandished a handgun and fired two rounds at the other man, one of which struck the victim in the abdomen. Canty, who was present during the incident, then drove Hunter away from the area. Canty was located and arrested on Tuesday for Harboring a Fugitive (Accessory after the Fact). She was released from jail the following day after posting $5,000 bond.
The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Hunter was arrested for Simple Burglary on Monday, October 19, resulting in a parole violation. He was transported from Rapides Parish to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on Friday, October 23 and booked on the outstanding warrant for Attempted Second Degree Murder. His bond is set at $150,000.
