Sheriff Craig Webre announced an inmate who was convicted of cocaine distribution last week punched a correctional officer during an incident the following day. Inmate Codi Campbell (age 28) now faces additional charges in Friday’s incident.
Shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, December 18, correctional officers at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center were retrieving laundry from the inmates. One of the officers opened a door to a housing unit and Inmate Campbell ran toward the officer. As the officer held Campbell back, Campbell punched the officer in the face. Campbell was moved to another housing unit and charged with Battery of a Police Officer and Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence. The correctional officer was treated at a local hospital and was released with no major injuries.
On Thursday, December 17, Campbell was convicted of selling crack cocaine. Sentencing is scheduled for January 14, 2016, and he faces up to 30 years in prison. In addition to charges from Friday’s incident, Campbell also faces other charges from past incidents at the Detention Center.
