Employee Reports Business Burglary and Later Admits to Committing the Crime

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Shawn Gaudet (age 36) of Schriever on January 4, 2016. At around 7 a.m. on Monday, January 4, investigators responded to a business burglary in the 2200 block of St. Mary Street in Thibodaux. An employee, Shawn Gaudet, reported that he arrived at the business office to find the front door ajar with damage consistent with forced entry. He also said he found several filing cabinets had been forced open, and a cash box and airsoft guns were missing. During the investigation, detectives uncovered evidence that led them to question Gaudet as the prime suspect in the burglary. During questioning, Gaudet admitted to burglarizing the business himself in late December. Gaudet was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was charged with Filing a False Public Record and Simple Burglary. He was also booked on and outstanding warrant for Contempt of Court due to a traffic violation. Bond was set at $26,100.
