Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and Port Fourchon Harbor Police Chief Jon Callais announced the arrest of Travis Cormier (age 38), an employee of Tiger Offshore Rentals, for his role in the theft of rental equipment in 2015. Detectives have also obtained a warrant for Anthony Harris (age 37) in the case. Both men are from Lafayette.
In October 2015, detectives opened an investigation after personnel at Tiger Offshore Rentals discovered approximately 100 “cuttings boxes” were missing, as well as baskets and slings used in oil production. These cuttings boxes are rented primarily to contain and transport drilling waste. Through the use of surveillance cameras, detectives identified a tractor unit (truck) which left the business property on September 19, 2015, with several cuttings boxes, but they discovered no record of the truck having been involved in any delivery or pickup on that date. Through investigation, detectives learned Travis Cormier, an employee at the business, allegedly orchestrated the theft of the boxes and loaded them on the to the truck at the Fourchon property. They also identified the truck driver as Anthony Harris who, detectives learned, made multiple trips to the business and sold the cuttings boxes at a scrap yard for cash, which he then shared with Cormier. Detectives obtained arrests warrants for both Cormier and Harris, charging them each with 17 counts of Felony Theft.
On Thursday, February 4, Port Fourchon Harbor Police made contact with Cormier in Fourchon. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on 17 counts of Felony Theft, and his bond was set at $250,000.
Detectives have been in contact with Harris by phone, but he has not yet turned himself over to authorities. He is believed to be in the Lafayette area.
