Raceland Man Arrested for Counterfeit Bills

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Lawrence Gray Jr. (age 64) of Raceland on Tuesday, March 15. Just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies responded to a convenience store on LA Highway 1 in Raceland in reference to a man attempting to use counterfeit money. Upon arrival, deputies learned the man, later identified as Lawrence Gray Jr. (age 64) of Raceland, attempted to buy items with a fake $20 bill. When the cashier told him the bill was fake, Gray paid with an authentic $20 bill and left the premises. With a description of the suspect and his vehicle, deputies spotted the suspect driving the vehicle on Ayo Street in Raceland. When questioned about the incident, Gray admitted to his involvement in the incident. Deputies also recovered nine counterfeit $20 bills which Gray had on his person. Gray was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Monetary Instrument Abuse. His bond is set at $20,000.
