UPDATE: Suspected Shooter in Friday’s Incident Succumbs to Injuries

Sheriff Craig Webre reported the man involved in Friday’s shooting incident in Raceland has died as a result of his injuries. Josh Eschette (age 32) of Raceland has been pronounced dead. He was kept on life support over the weekend in order for his organs to be harvested for donation. Eschette is the suspected shooter in an incident which also claimed the life of his estranged wife, 33-year-old Chelsi Pertuit Eschette.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received a phone call about the shooting at 9:52 a.m. on Friday, April 29. Deputies and detectives responded to a residence in the 4100 block of LA 1 in Raceland and found both Josh and Chelsi Eschette lying in the driveway. Through investigation, detectives believe Josh Eschette shot Chelsi Eschette multiple times before firing a single gunshot to his head. Chelsi Eschette was pronounced dead at the scene. Josh Eschette was airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries over the weekend. Detectives say their investigation is continuing.
