Lockport Man Faces New Drug-Related Charges Stemming from January Arrest

Sheriff Craig Webre announced additional charges have been brought against a Lockport man following the testing of suspected controlled substances at the state crime lab. Rodney Bonvillain Jr. (age 28), who was initially arrested in late January, was arrested again Tuesday, May 3 on new drug-related charges.

In January, agents received intelligence that 28-year-old Rodney Bonvillain Jr. was in possession of a pill press machine, as well as illegal narcotics and firearms at his residence. Agents made contact with Bonvillain and took him into custody for active warrants for contempt of court. A search warrant was executed at his residence, and agents recovered the illegal firearms, the pill press, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of an unidentified powder-like substance. Agents also discovered an assortment of pills and large quantities of a powder-like substance near the pill press. Agents were able to identify two types of pills as legend drugs, and the other substances were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge. Following a test of the substances, one was identified as containing Methamphetamine, and the other was identified as a substance that is not controlled under law. Bonvillain was using the uncontrolled substance to create pills made to look like opioid pills.

In January, Bonvillain was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Domestic Abuse Battery, Possession of Firearms with Obliterated Numbers, two counts of Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and three counts of Contempt Of Court. He spent 19 days in jail before bonding out on February 16, 2016. He was arrested again on Tuesday, May 3 on new charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Creation/Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute a Counterfeit Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was booked accordingly into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux, and his bond is set at $52,500.
