Thibodaux Man Charged with 5th DWI Offense

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Billy Vaughn (age 57) of Thibodaux on Saturday, July 16. At around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on LA Highway 304 near School Lane in Chackbay. Deputies made contact with the driver and identified him as Billy Vaughn. He was showing signs of possible intoxication, and he admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Vaughn submitted to a field sobriety test on which he performed poorly. He later refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. Deputies obtained a warrant for a blood test, and his blood sample was sent to the State Police Crime Lab to be tested. A review of his criminal history revealed four prior DWI convictions. He was charged with DWI (5th Offense), Unlawful Refusal to Submit to Chemical Tests, and improper lane usage. His bond is set at $77,200, and he is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole due to a parole violation.
