Teen Admits to Stealing Guns in Two Separate Burglaries

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Deontae Poindexter (age 18) of Gray in reference to two separate burglary incidents. The first incident was reported on June 5, 2015. A Raceland resident returned to his home after being gone for several days to find two pistols, a gaming system, and a tablet computer had been stolen from his home. The second incident was reported on January 18, 2016, when a Gray resident reported a pistol was stolen from his vehicle. Following an investigation into the incidents, detectives developed Poindexter as a suspect.

On Wednesday, July 27, detectives learned of Poindexter’s location in Houma, and deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted by locating Poindexter and bringing him to detectives. During questioning, Poindexter admitted to his involvement in both incidents. Poindexter was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Poindexter was charged with two counts of Theft of a Firearm, Simple Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, and Theft. His bond is set at $61,000.
