Handgun Found in Student’s Vehicle at Thibodaux High School

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Brennan Garman (age 17) of Thibodaux on Wednesday after he brought a gun onto the Thibodaux High School campus. On the morning of Wednesday, November 16, a school administrator made contact with the School Resource Officer after learning a high school student, Garman, possibly had a firearm inside his vehicle parked in the Thibodaux High School parking lot. The officer made contact with Garman and escorted him and the administrator to the vehicle where Garman admitted to having the 9mm handgun inside the center console of the vehicle. The officer secured the weapon, and Garman was placed under arrest. The officer’s investigation revealed Garman did not intend to use the gun at school, and Garman said he had the gun for self-defense. He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Carrying a Firearm by a Student at School (R.S. 14:95.2). He was released late Wednesday night after posting $1,000 bond.
