Our Patrol Division consists of highly-trained deputies who respond to all calls for service, from life threatening situations to keys locked in a car. This division consists of Uniform Patrol Section and the K-9 Section, as well as the Specialty Enforcement Section which includes Motorcycle Patrol, Bicycle Patrol, Traffic/School Guards, and the POP (Problem-Oriented Policing) Squad.
Detectives are called out to investigate major crimes that are reported to the Sheriff’s Office. They are specially trained to conduct initial and follow-up investigations and have the knowledge, skills, training, and experience to process crime scenes, collect and preserve evidence of a crime, and prepare cases for court. The Evidence Section catalogs and stores evidence for safekeeping and court proceedings. Narcotics agents are trained in case management, undercover, informant control, surveillance, and other related investigative techniques. The Crime Analysis Section collects and analyzes raw data from police reports in order to identify areas of the parish which may need special patrols or may benefit from crime-prevention techniques.
The Lafourche Sheriff’s Regional P.O.S.T. Training Academy is based in Thibodaux and trains officers from around the state. This division oversees the academy, annual re-certifications for LPSO deputies and other agencies, the Shooting Range, the Reserves Section, Explorer POST 323, and the “Safetyville” Exhibit at the Bayou Country Children’s Museum.
