BONDING INFORMATION

Q:  How can I bond someone out of jail?
A:
There are 5 ways of bonding, Cash, Property, Surety Bond, Personal Recognizance, and Fines and Cost.

CASH - Cash bonds apply when cash is used for the total amount of the inmates’ bond.  Checks, money orders, travelers’ checks, and credit cards, can be used for cash bonds.  Upon completion of all court proceedings cash bond monies will be refunded minus the bond fee.  There is a 30-dollar bond fee for every bond excluding paying fines and cost.

SURETY - Surety bonds apply when a Bail Bonding Agency provides an insurance power for the inmates bond.  The bonding company generates a fee for using their services.  The Detention Center does not suggest any bonding company, and we do not have anything to do with the money transaction between the bonding company and the party posting the bond.  Information on bonding companies can be obtained in the yellow pages of telephone directory of under Bails Bonding.

PROPERTY -  Property bonds apply when an individual utilizes land as a form of collateral for an inmate’s bond.  Steps for obtaining a property bond are followed:

·         The Assessor’s Office and Clerk of Court Office must assess the    property.

·         The property must be accessed in the parish the property is located.

·         The assessment must be submitted to the Detention Center

·         The Detention must have the original paper work for the Accessory’s Office.

·         The name of the individual(s) who owns the property must be present and identified by a photo identification card.

·         The assessed value of the property is multiplied by 10.

·         All liens are subtracted from the total assessed value.

·         The final value must be at least the amount of the bond.

PERSONAL RECOGNIZANCE BOND - Applies when a Judge orders the release of a detainee by having him place his signature on documents bonding the detainee to appear in court on the indicated date.  Only a Judge can authorize this bond.

FINES AND COST - Applies when a Judge allows a detainee to pay fines and court cost on the violation to be released from custody.  This is usually done on charges of Contempt of Court for failing to pay fines and court cost and Child Support.  Only the Judge will make that determination.
