As Lafourche Parish's only long term holding facility, the Detention Center serves as the jail for Lafourche Parish and for the municipalities of Thibodaux, Lockport, and Golden Meadow. The facility also houses inmates that are arrested by the Louisiana State Police, the state Probation and Parole office, Wildlife and Fisheries, the Port Fourchon Harbor Police, and various federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Detention Center inmates prepare meals for the Lafourche Parish Head Start Program as well as other inmates and jail staff.

Property Release
When an inmate is booked, all property other than clothing and I.D. must be released within 72 hours of incarceration. The inmate can arrange for someone to pick up the property or have it mailed home at the inmate's expense. Property is released on weekdays during the hours of 8am to 5pm.
