Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced detectives have identified a suspect wanted for stealing an elderly woman’s purse at a local department store last week. Detectives have obtained warrants for the arrest of Darnell Davis (B/M, D.O.B. 02/21/81) whose last known address is 513 Triple Oaks Street in Raceland.

At around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, patrol deputies responded to the Walmart Supercenter located at 4858 Highway 1 in Raceland in reference to a purse snatching. Deputies learned a man had stolen an elderly woman's purse, knocking her down in the process. Witnesses saw the man leave the store and enter a white, four-door sedan, which was parked behind the Lafourche Parish Government complex, with two other men inside the vehicle. The three men fled the scene in the car, eventually turning south onto LA Highway 1. An ambulance arrived on scene, but the victim declined to be transported for medical treatment.

Through investigation, detectives were able to identify Davis as the suspect in surveillance photos and obtained warrants for his arrest for Purse Snatching and Simple Battery of the Infirmed. The bonds on the warrants were set at $35,000 by Judge John LeBlanc.

Davis has several prior arrests for similar charges of theft, robbery and battery, as well as drug possession. Anyone with information on his whereabouts, or with information about the other suspects who were inside the vehicle with Davis, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Bayou Region. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 in cash if the information given leads to an arrest.
