Are You OK? Program
The "Are you OK?" Program is a FREE telephone reassurance service designed to enhance the quality of life for older adults, or adults with disabilities, who live alone or who are at risk of sudden illness, falls, accidents, and/or social isolation. Through the program, the Sheriff's Office places a daily call to each person enrolled at a specified time. If no response is received, a deputy is dispatched to the residence to ensure the person's safety.
How does the program work?
When you answer the phone, you will hear an automated voice say, "Press any key to hear an important message from the Lafourche Automated Notification System." By hitting any key, you are signifying that "YOU ARE OKAY." If you do not answer the phone or do not press a key within about 5 seconds, we will try calling two additional numbers given during enrollment. If one of the additional numbers is to someone other than yourself, this person is responsible for checking on you or contacting the Sheriff's Office of a possible emergency. If there is no response from any of the numbers, a deputy is dispatched to your residence to check on you.
Scheduling Daily Phone Call
You have the option to receive your call in the morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., in the afternoon betwen 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., or in the evening between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Contact Deanna Dufrene with Police Social Services by Email or by calling (985) 449-4477. She can provide more information on the program and schedule an enrollment meeting if necessary.
