Deputies Thwart Suicide Attempt, Apprehend Cut Off Man with 16 Arrest Warrants - by Dty. Brennan Matherne, PIO

Deputies Thwart Suicide Attempt, Apprehend Cut Off Man with 16 Arrest WarrantsLafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced deputies arrested a Cut Off man with 16 active warrants for his arrest after thwarting his attempt to commit suicide. Nicholas John Dalby (W/M, D.O.B. 02/07/79) of 15775 E. Main Street was arrested Sunday in Galliano. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office had issued information concerning Dalby’s arrest warrants through a “Fugitive Alert” sent to the media on May 15, 2012. At that time, Dalby had 14 Contempt of Court warrants with a total bond amount of $1.1 million. Since then, two additional warrants for Dalby’s arrest had been issued, also for Contempt of Court charges.

On Sunday evening, deputies received information on Dalby’s whereabouts from a concerned citizen. Deputies proceeded to a residence on W. 132nd Street in Galliano. Upon arrival, deputies spotted Dalby exiting the rear door of the residence. Deputies announced their presence and ordered him to submit to arrest. When Dalby saw the deputies, he ran back inside the residence. Deputies made entry into the residence and located Dalby lying face-down in the attic with lacerations to his wrists and a handgun lying nearby. Deputies also noticed a knife lying nearby that they believe Dalby used to cut his wrists. Deputies secured the handgun near Dalby and gave several verbal commands for him to place his hands behind his back, but he resisted by thrashing around in the small space. At that point deputies felt it necessary to utilize an electronic control device (Taser) and subdued Dalby into compliance. He was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to Lady of the Sea Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He was later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked on the 16 warrants for Contempt of Court. He was additionally charged with Resisting an Officer, Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He is being held in lieu of $1,180,100 bond.

Sheriff Webre commended the efforts of the deputies who responded to this situation. “The swift and courageous actions of the deputies involved not only may have saved their own lives, but also saved the life of the person being arrested,” said Sheriff Webre. “Information from concerned citizens continues to be one of our best allies in helping bring criminals like this to justice.”

All 16 warrants were for the charge of Contempt of Court for Dalby’s failure to appear in court to face charges including Aggravated Arson, Domestic Abuse with Child Endangerment, two counts of Violation of a Protective Order, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance, four counts of Simple Criminal Damage to Property, two counts of Simple Burglary, Attempted Simple Burglary, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, Hit and Run, and Improper Lane Usage.
