Lockport Woman Jailed for Lashing out over Leashless Pet - Sgt. Lesley Hill Peters

Lockport Woman Jailed for Lashing out over Leashless PetA Lockport woman is in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center charged with attacking her neighbors while trying to retrieve her wandering pit bull. On Wednesday, December 30th shortly before 11:00 AM, deputies were called to the 300 block of Hamilton Street. Larry Powell of 311 Hamilton stated a brown colored pit bull belonging to Wendy Dodge (W/F, DOB 10/12/1959, 233 Louis St, Lockport) was loose and walking the neighborhood. Powell told deputies the pit bull had killed his pet Chihuahua in January of this year.

Deputies contacted Dodge who was told the dog needed to be picked up and either housed in her home or leashed in her yard. Dodge could not produce proof the pet had been vaccinated but said she would retrieve her pet. Shortly before noon, deputies were called back to 300 Hamilton in reference to a fight. Upon arrival, Belinda Guevara described how Dodge had attacked her and daughter with a metal leash while trying to retrieve her errant pit bull from their yard. Guevara told deputies she asked Dodge several times to leave their property, but she refused. Guevara described how Dodge tried to hit her daughter with the leash but missed. But she did strike Guevara on the back before swinging at and striking the Guevara family cat.

Dodge is charged with Aggravated Assault (R.S. 14:37), Aggravated Battery (R.S. 14:34), Cruelty to Animals (R.S. 14:102), Remaining after Forbidden (R.S. 14:63.3), Dogs Roaming at Large (Parish Ordinance 15.4) and Vaccinations Required (Parish Ordinance 15:5). Judge John Leblanc set Dodge’s bond at $1,960 on all charges.
