| Insurance Checkpoint Set South - Sgt. Lesley Hill |
| |
Sheriff Craig Webre announced an insurance checkpoint will be held in the southern part of the parish Monday, August 2, 2010 between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
Motorists who encounter the checkpoint should be prepared to present a valid drivers license and proof of insurance for the vehicle. If proof of insurance cannot be supplied, their license plates will be removed and the vehicle could be impounded. Per statute (La R.S. 32:863.1), drivers without insurance have three calendar days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays) to provide proof of insurance, or the license plate and auto registration can be destroyed. The first offense reinstatement fee is $50.00, second, $150.00 and any subsequent offenses, $500.00.
Deputies will also be checking to make sure the driver and all passengers are properly restrained by seat belts per Louisiana law.
The last insurance checkpoint held at Hwy 1 and Hwy 3185 on July 23rd, 2010 resulted in no violations noted. All 214 vehicles checked were found to be properly insured per Louisiana law.
