School Break-ins Solved - Sgt. Lesley Hill

School Break-ins SolvedSheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a homeless man solves the case of recent break-ins at the Top North Campus at 2134 Hwy 308 in Thibodaux. Deputies were called to the school on Monday, July 26th around 1:30 PM and had previously responded to reports of a break-in at the campus on July 22nd.
In Monday’s, employees reported noticing food was missing. In the first break-in, $100 damage was done to a window screen and about $5 worth of loose change was reported missing.

In Monday’s incident, the employee reporting the break-in also noticed someone appeared to be living in what should have been a vacant home near the school at 2136 Bayou Road. The home had recently been purchased at auction and the new owner indicated it should be vacant. Deputies searched the home finding an open window. They also discovered an ice chest with a block of ice and two bottles of water. A child’s cot with a sofa pillow and several sheets was also found along with candy wrappers.

Deputies also made contact with Jerome Bagemehl (W/M, DOB 12/14/1958, no known address) inside the home. Bagemehl admitted breaking into the home and school beginning the week before after his car had broken down. Bagemehl described how he broke into the school cafeteria, made meals then cleaned up after himself and slept there at night since it was air conditioned. He admitted recently breaking into another part of the school in search of shower facilities. After showering, he discovered and helped himself to three boxes of candy. Bagemehl was charged with two counts of simple burglary (R.S. 14:62) and remains in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond as set by Judge John Leblanc.
