Sheriff Craig Webre announced one man is hospitalized following a shooting in the Alidore community in Raceland yesterday. Shortly before 8:00 AM Saturday morning, deputies were called to 163 Triple Oaks Street in Raceland.
Upon arrival, deputies found Kirk Chester (B/M, DOB 11/27/1981, 526 Triple Oaks, Raceland) shot once in the left knee. Sean Hester, Sr. (B/M, DOB 10/2/1967, 163 Triple Oaks, Raceland) admitted shooting Chester, but only after he attacked him in his own home. Chester and Hester are long time friends. Hester described how the two of them had shared a couple of beers together this morning after Hester got off work, when Chester accused his friend of stealing money from him.
Hester told detectives that Chester followed him inside his house and continued to argue about money. Hester described how Chester came at him and said he shot Chester as a last resort and only wanted to stop the attack. After Chester was shot, Hester told detectives the wounded man walked outside throwing a pill bottle by a fence. The bottle was seized as evidence and contained suspected crack cocaine.
Chester was taken initially to Ochsner St. Anne hospital but was transferred to Chabert Medical Center for surgery. Once he is released, he will be transferred to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center to be booked on several outstanding arrest warrants. Those warrants stem from two separate incidents last year. The first warrant was issued January 4, 2010 for the charge of Simple Criminal Damage to Property. The second was issued two days later on charges of Home Invasion and Simple Battery. Judge Jerome Barbera set bond for all of the warrants at $107,500.
Chester will also face charges of Battery, Possession of Crack Cocaine and Remaining after Forbidden in connection with today’s incident. Detectives will forward their report to the District Attorney’s Office for review to determine if Hester should face any charges in the incident.
