Fifth Grader Charged with Making Threats - Sgt. Lesley Hill Peters

Sheriff Craig Webre announced an 11-year old student from South Thibodaux Elementary is being charged in connection with an incident that temporarily forced a lockdown of the school this morning shortly after 8:00 AM. Deputies, School Resource Officers and officers from the Thibodaux Police Department responded to the possibility that a student had brought a gun to school.

The school was searched along with the 11-year old student in question. No weapon was found. Upon confirming the threat was not real, school activities returned to normal by 9:30 AM. The fifth grader was charged with Terrorizing (R.S. 14:40.1) and turned over to the custody of his parent. It will be up to the Lafourche Parish School Board to determine what, if any, disciplinary action the child will face.
